AvaTax Service for AbleCommerce 7

Introduction

When installed, the connector will provide tax calculation services through AbleCommerce using the Avalara AvaTax service. It is a full featured integration that includes tax calculation and address validation. It is compatible with all major features of the AbleCommerce shopping cart, for example quantity discounts, shipping charges, and multiple origin/destination addresses.

The AvaTax service must be purchased separately from Avalara.com in order to make use of the connector.


Installation

The AvaTax connector for AbleCommerce can be implemented with a few simple steps.  From an overview perspective the steps are to back up existing files, install modified files, and then enable AvaTax from the AbleCommerce merchant administration.


Version Compatibility

The AvaTax connector is compatible with AbleCommerce version 7.0.3 and above. Note that you must obtain the connector installation patch file that is appropriate for your version of AbleCommerce. There is one version of the patch for 7.0.3, and a second version of the patch for 7.0.4 and above.

How do I request the connector?

  1. Open AbleCommerce.com and log in with the user account that was used to place the order for the AbleCommerce software.

  2. Click on your username in the upper right corner to show a drop down menu.

  3. Choose My Orders & Licenses from the menu.

  4. Click on the "Orders" tab from the account page to view order history.

  5. Click on your order to view the receipt page.

  6. Scroll down to the section order notes.

  7. Use the contact form in this section to request the AvaTax Connector for AbleCommerce 7.

  8. When your request is processed, the AvaTax plug-in will be attached to your order and you will receive email notification to the address associated with the order.

Once my request is processed, how do I get the connector?

  1. Open AbleCommerce.com and log in with the user account that was used to place the order for the AbleCommerce software.

  2. Click on your username in the upper right corner to show a drop down menu.

  3. Choose My Orders & Licenses from the menu.

  4. Click on the "Orders" tab from the account page to view order history.

  5. Click on your order to view the receipt page.

  6. Scroll down to the section digital goods.

  7. Find the entry for AbleCommerce AvaTax Plug-in.

  8. Click on the download link for the connector.

Trust Policy Considerations

It is important to be aware of the trust policy that your AbleCommerce website is using prior to the installation of the AvaTax connector. The two most common levels of trust for a website are Full and Medium. If your website is on your own server, you may have Full trust. If your website is on a shared host, you most likely have some variation of Medium trust.

This is important because the AvaTax connector requires Full trust. If your website is running under less than Full trust, the AvaTax connector will not work unless the library is installed to the GAC. If you are under a partial (medium) trust scenario and must follow this procedure, you can refer to the following Microsoft resource for assistance:

It is the Avalara.AvaTax.Adapter.dll file that must be registered into the GAC. If that is done, the connector will work under Medium (or other partial) trust environments.
